As an Ethiopian journalist who now lives in Seattle, Washington State, I also would like to say congratulations for your pioneering work on creating an Africa
Almanac. What a superb job!
Thank you for providing us with a rich resource material.

The Africa Records pages
are a magnificent example of hard work and display. However, it's very difficult to use all this information.
As well as the display, why not put it all in an Excel spreadsheet format. Countries as rows, with all the
information in many columns. No tricks, graphics or fills. Just an information spreadsheet:
Sensible type, just a large header row, then same sized rows, figures and dates in consistent style, so that it can then
downloaded and sorted 1,001 ways, extra columns added if required, to get the answers one wants.
I tried to copy it into a spreadsheet format but there were too many complications.

As an old boy of Kings' College, Lagos, I think it is my responsibility to call to your notice the omission of this unique
Nigerian icon.
Kings' College, Lagos has been the pioneering high/ secondary school in Nigeria. It was founded in 1909 in the tradition of Eton College, London.
I appreciate the efforts on your website. Keep up the
good work. I am sure the rest of Africa will be proud of your efforts.

I am looking for a place where
I can find what happened in Africa and particularly South Africa in the year 1939. Anything of interest from births to deaths, from political to social events, sporting, cultural events, decisions, anything at all would
be valuable.

It is not that I am blowing my own trumpet, but one school that surely deserves to be on the top 20 list of
High Schools in Africa is Kenya's Starehe Boys Centre.
The school which incidentally happens to be my alma mater
is an institution that puts emphasis on not just academic excellence but in the creation of a well educated human being, and many of its graduates are proof of this.
The Director, Dr Griffin continues to devote his
life and energy to the enlightenment and education of his boys. Lenga Juu.

I am writing from London as a
researcher for the Virgin Health and Travel Guide, a book due to be published in April 2003.
I need to find the contact details for the main hospitals in: Botswana, Ghana, The Gambia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi,
Madagascar, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
I also need the telephone numbers of the emergency services in all those countries (such as police, fire and
ambulances). I appreciate that not all these countries will have such numbers, and in their absence, are there air ambulance emergency services?

I was visiting the website. Thank you a lot for the work you are doing to keep us up dated.
In the list of the top 10 hospital, I wondering where
for instance do Lacor Hospital and Gulu Independent hospital fall. Is it possible to rate some of these easily accessible hospitals?
Thank you very much and keep up the spirit.

I am a college student in Wichita and I have a paper due on North Africa. I am
having trouble finding some information. I know this is a wide topic but I need to know about the religions, politics, economics, cultures, ethnicity, and extreme diversities of this region. Can you help me? If not, can
you direct me to a web site with this information.

Just a quick word to let you know that we in Anguilla, West Indies (www.anguillalife.com) are using your site to follow events across Africa.
We recognise the historical connection
between the 19 million Blacks in the islands of the Caribbean, the 65 million Blacks next door in Brazil, and the 20 million Blacks in North America with the vast African continent.
We moreover are trying to educate
ourselves from an African perspective on our roots and present African ties.
Keep up the good work.

I was wondering if you had any biographical information on Dr. Theonest K. Mutabingwa who was
featured on your Almanac website
as head of a malaria research team that has tested new malaria drugs.
I need to know only simple things--such as where and when he was born, where he grew up, and what city and country he now lives in. I am writing a
small profile about him as part of a geography book to be published by Rosen Publishing Company in New York City.
Do you know where I might find this information?
Thank you.

This is a great website! A real tribute to Africa. I would like to say that I have long been a great admirer of Timothy Kalyegira, mainly
because I agree with him on many issues concerning the demise of our great continent.
Africans need to pull together and lift the continent to its rightful position on the world stage. Unfortunately, I have only just
chanced upon this website! I intend to forward its address to all my friends and colleagues immediately.
Keep it up! I also think a chat room on this website would not be bad idea.

Bravo on your efforts at Africa Almanac. However, I think
you need more balance in your best of Africa rankings. For example, you completely ignore Francophoone, Lusophone, and Arabic Africa, and after visiting your website, one can get the impression that South Africa is the
only country that matters in Africa.
You clearly ignore the Gulf of Guinea region, which is far more dynamic and prosperous than anywhere else on the continent. I'd challenge you that any "best of Africa"
list you put up ought to be dominated by Nigeria.
Nigeria has the highest number of big cities in Africa, three times South Africa's mineral wealth, Nollywood, an indigenous video film industry larger than any in
Europe except for Germany, and more dollar millionaires than Britain.
I won't even get into global Ghanaians, Senegalese, Ivorians, Cape Verdeans, to mention but a few.

Having attended the school my opinion maybe biased but on the whole I think it is very successful in
producing all round students and as past examination results indicate - excellent academic achievements.

I would like to vote for Strathmore as one of the top 20 schools in Africa.
The school's approach to education is so refreshing as the aim is to educate "wholly" mentally, physically
& spiritually. Character building is an integral part of the school, each student has a personal tutor from among the teaching staff whom he can confide in & reach out to for guidance.
The school's motto
"That all will be one" makes the students learn humility and tolerance. Many prominent Kenyans have gone through Strathmore School.

My letter is about air play of western music; all and most our music FM
stations in Africa pride themselves for playing over 50 percent western songs, whereas airplay of African songs is limited.
I have lived in Belgium for close to two years, but I have never heard any of the FM
stations here play any African music, does it ring a bell for you and your concept of making Africa known for positive efforts, and its music as well in the Western world?
Congratulations for the award to Africa Almanac.

Keep up the good work you are doing!
I am an African-American
and I am extremely tired of the negative garbage coming from "western media" such as the BBC and CNN.
Robert Mugabe should have been included on your list of the Top 100 Africans of 2001. He has the courage
to correct a historical injustice.
One percent of the population (whites) controlling eighty percent of the best farmland is neo-colonialism. We Africans are sometimes spineless defending strong African leaders.
As Africans we must built upon the positive.
Now that I have found your website, I will never leave it!
