] June 29, 2001 Thanks Timothy Kalyegira and every one at the Africa Almanac for your initiative to create this wonderful
website which will bring us together for a better idea. Keep up the good work
Selamawit Beiadghlgin Addis Ababa, EthiopiaJune 26, 2001 I don't know how you can call a
murderer/thief like Robert Mugabe one of the top Africans of the year. That is like calling Adolph Hitler 1939's man of the year. He wasn't killing Jews and Poles, he was encouraging land reform for well-deserving
Germans. If you are trying to do some real good, It is commendable. However if you are positive the whole time and ignore the real problems of Africa: AIDS, rape murder, racism, belief in
witches, slavery, hating westerners while demanding their help, I see no value in the service you are providing. Since western societies have left colonization behind Africa still hasn't gotten off to real
independence for its states. I wish you luck. Please don't kid yourselves about the West doing you harm. There is more than enough from your own people and governments. Jeff Gribben New York, USA
June 21, 2001 Thank you for relaying to the world some positive information about Africa. The website general looks nice. However, something on your main page dumpened my excitement (and I am sure it
has done this to others like David Franklin on April 23, 2001. Why does the statement read, "Africa and South African art, news and history information"? When I look at any map of Africa, South
Africa is very much a part of the continent! Anyway, thanks for your efforts.
Nelson Settumba Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA June 21, 2001 Congratulations for a great concept and
showing that there is a positive side to Africa - a side I see countless times each day. I am in Tanzania doing something you may find interesting. I'm working with a marginalised community in the north to
build a participatory community website: www.bermivillage.org the intention is to allow the community to write about their lives and culture and put it on the Net - a global platform.I have had no support for this: typical
responses from NGOs (and these are direst quotes) "Africans aren't ready for the Internet" and "it's too advanced for Africans". This is of course, utter tosh. Anyway, I don't know how
much longer I can keep going with this but I would appreciate any advice or comments you may have. Quarsan Bermi village Tanzania June 17, 2001 It was good finally having a look at the
website. As you say, there is much to be said and done on the site to counteract the racist, exploitative depiction of Africa as a gloom continent so as to soothe the consciences of the exploiters as they rape our
continent. However as the Chinese say that the journey of a thousand miles begin with the first step.

June 12, 2001 I would like to nominate Starehe Boys Centre and School in Kenya as one of Africa's Top 20 best high schools. It is a charitable institution started in 1959 by Dr. Geoffrey William
Griffin. It admits bright but needy students from accross the world. It is the best school in Kenya in national examinations, co-curricular activities and the students discipline is first rate. In terms of numbers
going to university, almost 100% of the students join university. Thomas Akuja Desertification Research Centre J. Blaustein Institute for Desert Researh Ben Gurion University of the Negev
Negev, Israel June 1, 2001 I would like it if you would nominate the following school, they are very good and efficient in all areas, being it education, sports, drama, music and
many other aspects. It is Veritas College, Gauteng, South Africa Yours Sincerely Andrea Klinkenberg Guateng, South Africa |
